Mosquito Nets for Africa… and beyond
In 1994 a small home industry business was started on a farm a few kilometres outside Stanford in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa. From these humble beginnings, the business has grown to become a highly renowned manufacturer and exporter of top quality mosquito nets in South Africa.
From cutting fabric on the floor of a small Wendy house on the farm, employing a part-time seamstress with one sewing machine, the workshop has now grown to a staff of nine. The team includes cutters, seamstresses, timber frame makers and administrators. Most of them have learned and honed their skills at Kiwinet.
In 2005, having outgrown the farmhouse, Kiwinet moved to a house in Stanford until 2009 when it took over large and modern business premises at 36 Daneel Street, Stanford.
Kiwinet was started by a Stanford woman of New Zealand origin. She needed mosquito nets for her children and, when she could not find any of good quality, she decided to make her own. Her friends liked her new product and began ordering them. In 1998 the “Kiwi” and her family moved and she sold the business to Robyn Lavender, the current owner, who is a Stanford resident. Robyn is always hands-on and works side-by-side with the staff, ensuring professional and personal service to each and every client.
The Kiwinet brand has become a household name within the South African interior decorating industry, with elegant, quality nets installed in all parts of the country, from private homes to luxury lodges, throughout Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands, the Caribbean, and across Europe.
The unique and original designs, produced by highly skilled staff, allow Kiwinet to customise nets for any size and design of room. Kiwinet is a truly proud “Made in South Africa” success story.
